While the album titles read more like a box of crayons, (Blue Green Red White), Weezer’s music brought color to the 90’s soundscape through shades of brightness and darkness and everything in between. Formed in 1992, the SoCal pop/alt-rock band’s core members included Rivers Cuomo, Patrick Wilson, Brian Bell, and Scott Shriner.

A year after signing to Geffen Records, Weezer’s self-titled debut album, also known as the Blue Album was released in 1994. Standout singles like “Undone—The Sweater Song”, “Buddy Holly” and “Say It Ain’t So” helped propel the album to platinum status. Weezer’s sophomore album carried a darker more abrasive tone. Pinkerton debuted in 1996 to mixed reviews and ranked 16 on the Billboard charts. With a career spanning more than 25 years, the Californian quartet continues to grow its catalog of self-titled albums with no end—or color in sight.
